New Hope Youth Centre

Providing First Nations youth with a safe, supportive space to belong, grow, and experience God’s love.

A Safe Place for Belonging and Hope

Founded in 2006 by New Hope Fellowship Church, the New Hope Youth Centre (NHYC) was created to support First Nations teens who travel from remote northern communities to Thunder Bay for high school or post-secondary education. Many youth must leave their families as early as age 13, facing separation from loved ones, language, and cultural traditions. This often brings grief, loneliness, and trauma. Amid these challenges, NHYC provides a safe, welcoming space for young people to build friendships, reconnect with each other, and experience God’s love.

Our Partnership

NHYC nurtures First Nations youth through meaningful relationships, mentorship, and culturally sensitive programming. Hope Story comes alongside the Centre by supporting the drop-in space and discipleship programs, helping youth aged 13–24 access safe spaces, creative outlets like art, games, and music, and practical support for mental health, housing, and life skills.

Staff and volunteers build trusting, life-giving relationships, walking alongside youth to encourage personal growth, spiritual development, and positive decision-making. Community events and team-building activities strengthen belonging and identity, while partnerships with New Hope Fellowship Church provide additional resources for mentorship, leadership development, and spiritual care.

Over time, the Centre has become a space for community and healing, helping youth navigate the complex realities of urban life while discovering hope and belonging.

It has been my pleasure to partner with Hope Story over the last few years to contribute to this exceptional organization. We’ve worked together to develop international events for our company with the proceeds supporting vulnerable children. We are proud of the work Hope Story does and look forward to many years of partnership ahead.
