Zambia's Commitment to Holistic Care

Through a combination of community outreach and programs offered at the Calvary Community Centre, the church serves vulnerable children while strengthening the families and communities around them.

Monitoring school performance during home visit

At the heart of the ministry is a commitment to holistic care. The Community Centre provides opportunities for children and youth to learn and grow through preschool education, homework support, computer training, music programs, catering courses, and adult literacy classes. These programs help children succeed academically while equipping youth and adults with practical skills that can create pathways toward employment and greater independence.

Preaching God's Word to children

Much of Calvary's impact, however, happens beyond the walls of the Centre. Staff regularly visit families in their homes, taking time to understand the challenges children face and providing support tailored to their needs. During these visits, teams monitor school performance, assess health concerns, provide counselling, pray with families, and offer spiritual encouragement. These relationships create opportunities to walk alongside children through both everyday struggles and major life challenges

Counseling is offered to children and their families

The results are encouraging. Through ongoing mentorship and homework support, more than 80% of children are performing well academically, demonstrating the impact that consistent encouragement and educational support can have on a child's future.

Yet success is measured by more than grades. Children participate in Bible studies, discipleship programs, and counselling sessions that help build confidence, resilience, and faith. Parents and caregivers are also invited to engage through Bible studies, health awareness sessions, and community discussions that strengthen families and encourage positive change within the wider community. Through these conversations, relationships are built, families find support, and communities become more connected.

Like many ministries working in vulnerable communities, Calvary faces ongoing challenges. Some children travel long distances to reach the Centre, making attendance difficult. Economic hardship continues to prevent some families from fully participating in available programs, and limited medical resources can restrict the level of care that can be provided. Even so, staff remain committed to reaching children wherever they are, confirming appointments, conducting follow-up visits, and finding creative ways to ensure support continues despite these obstacles.

‍

Prayer
  • We pray for the children who have completed their Grade 12 education and are waiting to enter college; may God make a way for them to pursue further education.
  • We ask for God’s guidance as the social workers go into the community to assist the children during home visits.
  • We pray that the Word of God penetrates the hearts and minds of the people in the community that they may come to know Jesus Christ.
