The Crucible for Silver and the Furnace for Gold, but God Tests the Hearts!

A Month of Trials and Triumphs.

Sometimes, we think we understand the scriptures until reality puts our knowledge to the test. Not long ago, I shared this verse during our staff devotion. I emphasized how trials refine and improve us as people. Little did I know, I was preparing myself for refinement. December turned out to be a refining month for me!

Two significant events were arranged in December: my wife Sarah’s surgery and the youth camp in Mombasa. Sarah was scheduled for surgery, a “proximal row carpectomy,” at Kijabe Hospital in Kenya on December 14th, 2023. Simultaneously, the youth camp in Mombasa was set to take place from December 10th to 17th, 2023.

The plan seemed straightforward: my team from Tanzania would travel to Mombasa on December 9th. I would accompany them until the 12th, after which Sarah would join me in Mombasa. That same night, we would proceed to Nairobi and arrive in Kijabe on the 13th morning for Sarah’s surgery. However, on Wednesday, December 6th, 2023, at 8:32 PM, I had a life-threatening motorcycle accident.

It’s challenging to explain how the accident happened, but even more miraculous is how I survived it. After losing consciousness momentarily, I woke up surrounded by colleagues and family members in the military hospital. In that moment, my mind raced with worries about Sarah’s surgery and the youth camp. It was a wake-up call, prompting me to repent and trust God more deeply than ever before.

Within six days of the accident, most of the scars on my face had disappeared, and I was already able to resume my responsibilities. Even initial treatment for my damaged teeth was provided for. God’s provision was evident throughout, covering the initial stages of my treatment, the youth trip to Mombasa, and Sarah’s surgery.

God used this accident to strengthen my faith, especially as we faced uncertainties regarding Sarah’s health. Despite the pain and health complications she is enduring, I hold onto hope, knowing that the same God who spared me from the accident will bring her healing. We are deeply grateful to all who supported us through prayers, finances, and encouragement during this challenging time. May God also renew your faith and remember you in your time of need, for OUR GOD IS TRULY A MIRACLE-WORKING GOD IF WE TRUST AND BELIEVE IN HIM.
