Helena Jua, a fifth-grader in Tanzania receiving her solar light.
Helena Jua, a fifth-grader in Tanzania receiving her solar light.

“My name is Helena Jua. I wake up at 5:00 a.m. to walk the 17 kilometers to school, and when I get back home at 6:00 p.m., after helping my parents with work, I help my mom as she cooks by holding up a flashlight so she can see what she’s doing.

Because of this solar light, my mom can prepare dinner on her own while I do my homework. When I grow up, I want to be a nurse. I believe I will achieve my dream. Now, I am able to do my homework on time. It even helps my youngest sister get to sleep as she is afraid of the dark.

God bless you all for making my learning experience possible.”

Light illuminates.
It keeps us connected when night falls.
And its benefits are amplified when it’s made accessible to those without it.

“The solar lamp helped me a lot in my studies and academic work. I’m now able to study at night and it also helps at home for different work. Thank you for the lamp!”

Our generous matching donors are doubling your donations right now.
They wanted to share why this cause is so near to their hearts:

“We take access to light for granted in Canada, but in many parts of the world where there is no electricity. Light depends on oil lamps, candles or waiting for the sun to come up. A solar-powered light that lasts up to 10 hours allows children the chance to do their homework after 6:00 p.m. and excel in schooling and spiritual disciplines where they could not before. This is truly life-changing and we can provide this change in their life for just $20 per light. We are excited that Hope Story wants to help in this way and we agreed to match every dollar donated up to $20,000.”
