Our Response to COVID-19

Our call is to prudent action.

The trajectory of the COVID-19 pandemic is breathtaking, both in its speed and its scope. Many are understandably frightened and anxious. As Christians, we recognize that we live in a broken world. We also believe that “God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7). In this moment, we believe our call is to prudent action. Please read the details below.

COVID-19 Sponsorship FAQ

The Coronavirus is highly contagious. Hope Story is carefully monitoring the progress of this virus so that we can respond appropriately - limiting the impact of this virus on the Canadian public, our staff, our international partners, and the vulnerable people we serve.

To date, our Hope Story family gave thousands of dollars to help vulnerable children and families weather this storm, providing:

0 children & families with groceries
0 children & families with soap

However, the needs remain urgent and ongoing. Many children are still awaiting help. Provide tangible support to families in great need.

Here’s what else we’re doing as an organization:

In Canada

  1. We are praying for each of our international partners and sharing these prayer requests with the greater Hope Story community.
  2. We are encouraging Hope Story staff and donors to keep up to date via trusted sources, chief among them the Government of Canada and the WHO.
  3. We have implemented a work-from-home policy. All staff are encouraged to stay home and practice social distancing. As a result, our office address at 55 Fleming Dr. is closed. You can reach us during normal office hours (9am – 5pm) by phone or by email.
  4. All meetings, including donor meetings, have either been postponed or reorganized remotely.
  5. All international teams scheduled to the end of May have been postponed or cancelled.
  6. We are encouraging staff to:
    • Practice social distancing
    • Refresh ourselves on proper cough and sneeze hygiene.
    • Wash our hands regularly.
    • Stop touching our faces.
    • Consider getting the flu vaccine.

Abroad

  1. We are encouraging our international church partners to follow the COVID-19 directives of all local and national governments. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • School closures
    • Church closures
    • Cancellation of large gatherings
  2. We are encouraging local partners to:
    • Practice social distancing
    • Refresh themselves on proper cough and sneeze hygiene.
    • Wash hands regularly.
    • Stop touching faces.
  3. We are meeting weekly with each of our partners to determine the best course(s) of action given the needs in their community, as well as their particular context and ministry.

Hope Story is working to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable children – ensuring vulnerable families are supported, delivering groceries and basic necessities including soap, and training people in hand washing with soap and social distancing.
