Nepal Spring Update

Nepal, SARA Ministries

Pastor Rajan (a pseudonym), who lost his mother at age 5, founded SARA Ministries, hearing God’s call to reach out to vulnerable children. SARA Ministries provides a home for children who have nowhere else to turn, enabling them to attend school, stay healthy, and develop their faith. Other vulnerable children in the community also receive education support, and through SARA Church, the children participate in vibrant youth groups and Bible studies.

When we asked Pastor Rajan about the well-being of the children SARA Ministries cares for, he was happy to report that the children are doing well! COVID-19 cases numbers were low early on in the pandemic, allowing children to attend school and church in person – though not currently.

One dream for the future is the establishment of after school programs in slum communities. Many lower caste families – illiterate and barely able to feed themselves – are somehow managing to pay the fees to send their kids to school. But the children return to an empty home, and their parents are not equipped to help with homework, leading to difficulties at school.

Pastor Rajan has a dream to provide a safe place where the children can go after school, receive homework help, and a snack. Helping to keep them in school and protecting their future.

Education has already made such a difference for the children who have gone through SARA’s programs. Rajendra, for instance, whose parents were both paralyzed and unable to work, always dreamed of becoming a businessman. He is now attending university through Hope Story’s Scholarship program.

The Church in Nepal has been growing in recent years, so much so that Nepal now has a law to restrict Christian proselytization. Pastor Rajan is committed to being a peacemaker and demonstrating how much the church loves their country. He must use caution, remain wise, and rest in God’s protection.

Please pray for...

Pastor Rajan’s safety as he is openly Christian in a country uncomfortable with Christianity.

For the development and realization of an after-school program.

For the well-being of the children during lock-down.
